In Huntsville, the Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy is set to launch an innovative world premiere production named “Space Monkeys! The Adventures of Baker & Able.”
Stephen Tyler Davis, the Artistic Director, is the author and director of this groundbreaking play, an engaging blend of youthfulness and history, concluding the season with an all-original flavor. “Space Monkeys!” showcases an impressively large ensemble cast headlined by Lydia Gray as “Miss Baker,” Rachel Maxwell as “Able,” and several others.
The premise of the play involves five children in Huntsville, part of the “Squad Secret Society of the Rocket City Junior Space Enthusiasts and Future Astronauts of America” (SPAMO), who meet at every full moon for their secret space society. This month, they are welcoming a newcomer, who has never heard of America’s famous “Space Monkeys.” Hence, the children embark on a fascinating narration of the 65-year-old story.
The historical narrative speaks about the brave monkeys, Baker and Able, pioneers in space exploration back in 1959. A steller adventure appealing to all ages, the play weaves a tapestry of sacrifice, bravery, grand dreams, and deep-rooted friendship, ensuring a galactic magnitude of enjoyment and inspiration.
The Boeing Company is extending their support as the sponsor for “Space Monkeys!” The show timings have been scheduled for May 9 and May 10, featuring the Fantasy Playhouse Alumni Night at 7 p.m. Additional performances are planned on May 11 and May 12 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively, with a unique sensory-friendly performance earmarked for May 11 at 10 a.m.
The tickets are priced at $22 for adults and $17 for individuals aged 17 or younger. An added bonus is that children aged two and younger may attend the show for free if they sit on a lap. These lap-seat tickets can be availed at the Box Office before the performance. Tickets are also offered at discounted rates for groups of 10 or more people.
The Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy has been a major player in facilitating theater-art accessibility, positively affecting the lives of over 31,000 residents every year, including more than 21,000 young citizens.
