Huntsville Botanical Garden and UAH Present Shakespeare in the Garden

Huntsville Botanical Garden and UAH partner for Shakespeare in the Garden

Huntsville Botanical Garden and UAH Present Shakespeare in the Garden

In an exciting partnership between the Huntsville Botanical Garden (HBG) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), the two entities are collaborating to present “Shakespeare in the Garden” this summer.

Experience Shakespeare’s Masterpieces in a Unique Setting

Starting on July 26, audiences are invited to translocate to “fair Verona,” Italy, or the mythical seacoast of Bohemia simply by visiting the HBG. Accompanied by the magic of nature and under the amphitheater’s starry lights, attendees will savor alternating performances of Shakespeare’s acclaimed works, “Romeo and Juliet” and “The Winter’s Tale.”

This 90-minute version of “Romeo and Juliet” will take place on July 26, August 3, and August 9 at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. This timeless tale of love and tragedy between two “star-crossed lovers” offers a family-friendly way to experience one of the greatest love stories ever written.

Explore the Themes of Jealousy, Forgiveness, and Redemption

For those seeking an alternative to teenage romance, “The Winter’s Tale,” a complex story of jealousy, forgiveness, and redemption, will be performed on July 27, August 2, and August 10. Here, ancient Greek oracles meet Renaissance sculptors, and attendees are reminded that “what’s past is prologue.”

Ticket Information and Additional Details

Tickets for this immersive theatre experience are priced at $25 for Garden members and $35 for non-members and can be purchased online. However, due to the unpredictable nature of outdoor events, there are no refunds for canceled performances and no rain dates. If a performance is cancelled due to weather, guests can reschedule their tickets for a later date on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fine Concessions and a No-Alcohol Policy

Those in attendance can also enjoy a range of concessions, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which will be available for purchase during the events. To ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, guests are prohibited from bringing their own alcohol into the Garden.

Experience the Power of Theatre in Nature

As cultural institutions in Huntsville, HBG and UAH are united in their commitment to bring high-quality programming that enriches local life and highlights the power of the arts. By integrating the beauty of nature with the dramatic flair of Shakespeare, “Shakespeare in the Garden” offers an unparalleled theatre experience that educates and entertains audiences of all ages. This partnership showcases the power of collaboration in fostering vibrant, community-centered events that celebrate the rich tapestry of humanity as depicted by one of history’s greatest playwrights.
