What’s the Buzz About Rosenwald Schools?

For those who might not be familiar, the Rosenwald Schools were a groundbreaking initiative that transformed education for African American children in the South. Thanks to the collaborative efforts between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington, more than 5,000 schools were established, positively impacting the education of approximately 600,000 students across 15 states. This exhibit will explore the invaluable partnership between these two prominent figures and the significant impact their work had on rural education.

The display is on loan from Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction, and has been thoughtfully created in collaboration with the Alabama Department of Archives. Planning on checking out the exhibit? You’re in luck! It’s included with your general admission ticket to the Burritt Museum, meaning you can explore a wealth of history without breaking the bank. What great news! Adult tickets are priced at an affordable $12, while children and students can visit for just $8. For seniors aged 60 and up, or military personnel, the admission cost is $10, and importantly, children aged 2 and under can enter for free. Burritt members also enjoy complimentary access. Just a reminder, tax will be added to all admission rates at the time of purchase.

Until the end of March, the museum will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. Mark your calendars, because from April to May, the hours will shift a little to Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, with Sundays remaining the same.
