HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A special pet clinic opened in Huntsville on a bright, sunny morning as officials with the Greater Huntsville Humane Society gathered to cut the ribbon on the Ronnie Hornbuckle Haven for FIV/FeLV Felines.
Over the last two years, diligent efforts have culminated in the opening of the first-of-its-kind facility in the state of Alabama. The Haven will serve as a dedicated adoption and resource center for cats diagnosed with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia, offering a sanctuary for these special felines.
Spencer Batcheller, the CEO of the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, explained the significance of the facility, stating, “FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, akin to human AIDS, while FeLV is leukemia in cats. These conditions can pose serious health risks for felines, but with proper care and support, we can significantly improve their quality of life and find them loving homes.”
The building was named after Ronnie Hornbuckle, a devoted animal lover and advocate in the Huntsville community. His legacy lives on through this Haven, which aims to provide a safe haven for cats in need of specialized care and attention.
The launch of the Ronnie Hornbuckle Haven represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to support and protect animals in Huntsville and beyond. With a dedicated space for FIV/FeLV felines, the facility is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of these special cats and the community at large.
The successful completion of the Haven would not have been possible without the generous contributions of donors, the expertise of architects and builders, and the unwavering commitment of the Greater Huntsville Humane Society. Together, they have created a beacon of hope for cats in need of specialized care and compassion.
