Hey there, Redstone community! Get ready to mark your calendars for a fantastic event that celebrates our military retirees. The 53rd Annual Retiree Appreciation Days (RAD) are all set for October 24-25, and it promises to be an enriching experience for everyone involved!
Last year, more than 100 retirees turned out to take part in this amazing initiative aimed at serving our military retiree community, and this year is expected to be just as exciting. Betty Anderson, the retirement services officer at Redstone, highlighted how important these days are, saying, “It lists all the changes that the retirees might not have known about.”
So, what sort of activities can you look forward to? Well, there’s going to be a whole lot of information available that is especially designed to help you understand the benefits and changes related to military retiree services.
Retired Capt. Richard West, who enjoyed a fruitful Navy career and now sits on the Redstone Military Retiree Council, put it perfectly: “Every service member, whatever service they’re in, goes through the Transition Assistance Programs. They get fed lots of good information about retirement, how to do this, how to do that. Guess what? It’s the military; two years later, all of that is obsolete.” This is why RAD is a great opportunity to get updated on critical topics.
The festivities kick off on Thursday, October 24th. If you need to sort out your identification card or have legal questions, you’ll be in luck! ID services will be available at the One Stop ID Card Section. Meanwhile, folks can head over to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate on Honest John Road for some legal services. The Redstone Legal Office will provide a few select services on a first-come, first-served basis, including wills, powers of attorney, and notary services.
Then, on October 25th, you can dive into a whole day’s worth of activities starting at 9 a.m. over at Heiser Hall. The day will kick off with remarks from the senior commander of Redstone and the Garrison commander. The morning sessions will cover various aspects of retirees’ needs, featuring presentations from folks like the commander of the Fox Army Health Center, the Huntsville Hospice Caring of Life, and representatives from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.
After lunch, there will be amazing information booths you can peruse at your leisure. Oh, and don’t forget, flu shots will also be available for those who want to protect themselves as the colder months roll in!
Col. Erin Eike, the Garrison Commander, emphasized the vital role that retirees play in the community. In a heartfelt letter, she stated, “As a team, we grow and move forward into the future, not only on Redstone Arsenal, but throughout the surrounding area. Your enduring support plays a big part in that effort. As such, it’s vital we give back to those who contribute so much to make our installation a great place to live, work, and play.”
As you can see, Retiree Appreciation Days at Redstone Arsenal is shaping up to be a substantial and insightful experience. From legal assistance to health resources, everything is designed to honor and support our retirees. So gather your friends, come out, and take full advantage of this opportunity to reconnect with your community and stay updated on what you need to know!
