HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The city of Huntsville is gearing up for the upcoming District 1 council seat election, with a new contender throwing their hat into the ring. Reggie McKenzie, a well-known figure in the community, officially announced his candidacy for the council seat on Thursday.
With a distinguished 28-year career in the Army and over four decades of active involvement in the Huntsville community, McKenzie brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the table. He has been a part of various local organizations, including the Huntsville Hospital HealthCare Authority Board of Directors, Youth Motivation, and the Alabama A&M Alumni Association.
“District 1 needs a genuine leader,” McKenzie stated. “As a long-time community servant, entrepreneur, and strategist, I have the experience and drive to advocate for District 1 and make a meaningful impact for our community and residents.”
McKenzie has laid out a comprehensive 10-point plan outlining his vision for District 1. Key highlights of his plan include the development of hotels and additional commercial spaces to stimulate the local economy and bring about positive growth and opportunities for the area.
The incumbent for the District 1 council seat is Devyn Keith, while Michelle Watkins has also entered the race, creating a competitive electoral landscape. Voters in Huntsville will have the chance to voice their preferences and make their decision at the polls on August 27.
