Huntsville Gets Ready to Go Green with Free Recycling Event!

Hey there, Huntsville! The festive season might be wrapping up, but don’t toss your holiday debris just anywhere! Instead, get ready to join hands with your community to keep our lovely city cleaner and greener. On Saturday, January 11, Huntsville is kicking off its Operation Christmas Cleanup event, where you can recycle your live Christmas trees, cardboard boxes, batteries, and those outdated electronics— all for free!

When and Where to Drop Off Your Holiday Waste

This eco-friendly recycling bonanza will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two convenient drop-off spots:

  • John Hunt Park, located at 2315 Airport Road
  • Madison City Schools Stadium, on 211 Celtic Drive

So gather up all those Christmas tree remnants, old electronics, and piles of cardboard to keep our environment clean. It’s a fantastic way to start the new year with a commitment to sustainability!

What You Need to Know Before You Go

Now, before you load up your car and head to the event, here are a few important details to remember:

  • Make sure to remove all lights and ornaments from your live Christmas trees. They won’t be accepted otherwise. Give your tree a good farewell without the sparkles!
  • Unfortunately, this event won’t take artificial trees, wrapping paper, or any packaging materials like styrofoam and plastic. It’s all about keeping things recyclable, folks!

So it’s time to do a little decluttering and make a positive impact on our community. Just think about how great it will feel to recycle those items instead of sending them off to a landfill. You’ll be doing your part to protect our environment while ticking off those post-holiday chores!

Supported by Your Local Community

This wonderful initiative is a team effort! It’s collaborated on by:

  • The City of Huntsville’s Green Team
  • The City of Madison
  • Madison County
  • Solid Waste Disposal Authority
  • The Recycling Alliance of North Alabama’s curbside recycling program

This multi-agency effort reflects the commitment of your local officials to embrace a more sustainable future and make recycling easy and accessible for everyone in the region.
