Huntsville Gears Up for Record Store Day 2025
The vibrant city of Huntsville, Alabama, is gearing up for an exciting day ahead! On Saturday, April 12, 2025, music lovers across the area will come together to celebrate the annual Record Store Day, an event much-loved by audiophiles, collectors, and casual listeners alike. It’s like Christmas for your ears! Founded way back in 2007 by a group of dedicated independent record store owners and employees, the first official Record Store Day happened on April 19, 2008, featuring none other than rock legends Metallica at Rasputin Music in San Francisco.
A Global Celebration of Music
Since its modest beginnings, Record Store Day has blossomed into a global celebration that spans thousands of independent record stores worldwide. Fans are treated to a treasure trove of exclusive releases, which include everything from limited edition vinyl pressings to rare reissues and even previously unreleased tracks. No matter your taste in music, there’s something for everyone! Big-name icons like David Bowie and The Beatles join forces with contemporary stars like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish to make this day unforgettable.
Exciting Releases Await!
This year, Huntsville’s own Vertical House Records, owned by the dynamic duo Andy and Ashley Vaughn, is ready to make their mark once again. They have proudly participated in Record Store Day every single year since it started and have witnessed the event get bigger and better each time. The local community plays a huge role in supporting independent businesses during this celebration of music.
Fans are already buzzing with excitement over the popular requests for releases this year! Expect to see exclusive vinyl from artists like Taylor Swift, Brittany Howard, Gorillaz, Waxahatchee, Charli XCX, RKS, The Cure, and MJ Lenderman. With anticipated new releases from The Replacements, The Dare, Thin Lizzy, and T. Rex, there will be no shortage of amazing music to discover!
Supporting Local Culture
In addition to the amazing deals and exclusive vinyl, Huntsville is home to some fantastic record stores. Options include Black Rose Records, Maxwell’s Music, and Vertical House Records, each contributing uniquely to the rich culture of vinyl collecting and music appreciation in the city. Black Rose Records offers a fantastic selection of new arrivals and niche offerings for collectors, while Maxwell’s Music is known for its classic record-browsing experience filled with vintage treasures.
Birmingham Joins In on the Fun!
Just a short drive away in Birmingham, fans can also get in on the festivities at Seasick Records, which will be offering a special limited-edition seven-inch vinyl of the beloved “Everybody Goes to Milo’s” jingle. Imagine having six different cover versions by local artists! This delightful jingle first aired back in 1993 and has since become a staple in the Birmingham community, closely tied to the famous Milo’s Hamburgers.
Seasick Records will kick off their Record Store Day festivities by opening their doors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Early birds can line up and even camp inside the store until they fill up, after which they’ll be able to set up camp outside! And to make it even tastier, Milo’s Hamburgers will be on-site grilling burgers, with additional food offerings from the Alabama Peanut Company. It’s a true feast for the senses, with a portion of proceeds from the “Everybody Goes to Milo’s” vinyl benefitting the Firehouse Community Arts Center in Birmingham.
