Huntsville’s Port Achieves Historic Passenger Milestone with 1.47 Million Travelers!

Huntsville’s Port Soars with Record Passenger Numbers!

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Big news for travelers and businesses alike! The Port of Huntsville has just dropped its 2024 Annual Report, celebrating some impressive milestones from the last fiscal year, which spanned from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. And let us tell you, it’s a doozy!

Another Record-Breaking Year for Passengers

If you’ve been through the Port of Huntsville lately, you might have sensed the buzz in the air—and it’s not just because of the upcoming holiday travels! Passenger traffic has reached an all-time high, with over 1.47 million passengers flying in and out last year. That’s right! Public Relations Manager Mary Swanstrom shared that they are on track to potentially break that record again this year. What’s driving these soaring numbers? Swanstrom attributes it to expanded partnerships with airlines, leading to more routes and flights being added. “The airlines are investing their routes and their equipment in Huntsville,” she noted, making it easier for all of us to hit the skies!

Busy Days at the Port

On peak days, it’s bustling with around 70 commercial passenger flights serving travelers. So whether you’re jetting off for a weekend getaway or heading home for the holidays, you’re not alone in your travels!

Infrastructure Developments Galore

But wait, there’s more! The Port of Huntsville isn’t just about flights; there’s been a lot of exciting construction happening as well. Over $10 million was invested in projects this fiscal year. One of their big highlights? A new cell phone waiting lot that aims to cut down the congestion in front of the terminal—perfect for those pick-up and drop-off moments. Also, travelers can expect a boosted experience with the doubled capacity for rental car availability thanks to the addition of a rental car return lot. Talk about convenience!

The Bigger Picture: Beyond Passengers

And it’s not just about travelers, either! The Port has witnessed growth in rail cargo, with a staggering 24% increase in rail lifts noted in the report. This is a significant indicator of Huntsville’s growing role as a transportation hub, benefiting both businesses and the community.

What’s Next for Huntsville’s Port?

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2025, even more construction projects are in the pipeline, which means travelers can expect to see more construction barriers and changes as they walk through the terminal. So, travelers, a little patience will go a long way! Swanstrom expressed her excitement about the upcoming developments: “We appreciate our customers packing their patience and also we’re really excited for the wonderful amenities that are to come this next year.”

With such rapid growth and exciting future plans, it’s clear that the Port of Huntsville is more than just a busy airport; it’s a vital part of the community and a gateway for countless journeys. So whether you’re flying high or just driving by, keep your eyes peeled for what’s next for our beloved Port of Huntsville!
