Man Arrested Following Vehicle Crash During Police Chase in Huntsville

A man was apprehended by authorities in Huntsville after a high-speed police chase culminated in a vehicle crash on Wednesday night. The incident, which resulted in the death of the driver, unfolded in the vicinity of Governors Drive and Governors Place at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Details of the Incident

The Huntsville Police Department confirmed that the driver, identified as 35-year-old Justin Keith Crawford, lost his life in the wreck following the pursuit. According to reports from the HPD, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle being driven by Clifton Webster around 10:19 p.m. However, Webster refused to stop and instead initiated a chase with law enforcement.

During the pursuit, Webster was involved in a single-vehicle accident and subsequently tried to flee the scene on foot. Despite his attempts to escape, officers were able to swiftly apprehend him a short distance away from the crashed vehicle. Webster sustained minor injuries in the collision and was promptly transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Arrest and Charges

Following his release from medical care, Webster was taken into custody by the Huntsville Police Department and later booked into the Madison County Jail. He is facing charges of attempting to elude a police officer resulting in serious injury or death, with speeds exceeding 20mph over the limit. Additionally, Webster had an outstanding warrant for first-degree theft of property related to a prior case from 2023.

Records from the jail indicate that Webster is currently being held on a $10,000 bond pending further legal proceedings.
