In a deeply felt loss for the Huntsville community, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Horton, a beloved pediatrician, passed away on August 4th after a courageous 16-month battle with glioblastoma, a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 57 years old.
For over 27 years, Dr. Horton made his mark on the lives of countless children and their families in Huntsville. As a managing partner at Twickenham Pediatrics and serving as the Chief of Pediatrics at Crestwood Medical Center, he dedicated his life to promoting the health and wellbeing of young patients.
Described by his wife, Melea Horton, as a quiet but kind-hearted man, Dr. Horton was known for his unwavering commitment to doing the right thing. His gentle spirit and professionalism endeared him to parents and children alike, making him a stalwart figure within the community.
Dr. Horton was born and raised in Huntsville, where he also raised two beautiful daughters, Maggie and Laura. His deep connection to the area shaped not only his personal life but also his professional ethos. An alumnus of Auburn University, he held both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the institution and always proudly supported his team.
In remembrance of his significant contributions, memorials can be directed to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, benefiting Pediatrics, or the Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics Dr. Charles R. Horton, Jr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship.
As the community reflects on the life of Dr. Horton, his legacy of compassion, dedication, and hope will continue to inspire those he touched. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his influence will be felt for years to come.
