New $3 Million Skating Rink Coming to Stoner Park in North Huntsville

In an exciting development for North Huntsville residents and skating enthusiasts, plans have been approved for a new state-of-the-art open-air skating rink in Stoner Park. Endorsed as the ‘Skate Huntsville’ facility, it marks a significant investment of $3 million in the recreational needs of the area.

Huntsville Planning Commission Greenlights Project

The Huntsville Planning Commission recently gave its seal of approval for the construction of the ‘Skate Huntsville’ facility. District 1 City Councilman Devyn Keith staunchly backed the project, having spent part of his childhood playing on the Stoner Park ballfields. In addition to his personal attachment to the park, Keith expressed his support for initiatives that add unique attractions to North Huntsville.

“For me, anytime we can find a specific user group, a unique user group that magnetizes North Huntsville- I’m going to get behind it,” Keith said.

Facility Details

The proposed skating rink will be replete with a pavilion, restrooms, landscaping, lighting, and air conditioning for the hot summer days. According to Councilman Keith, this skating rink is just step one of a larger plan to revamp the entire park, thereby enhancing its appeal and utility for the local residents.

“This will be the first leg of the first phase of the redevelopment of Stoner Park which will encompass most of what’s behind me, the parking lot, and the introduction of a $3 million facility – a new skate rink,” Keith revealed.

Positive Response from the Community

The announcement of this new facility has generated a great deal of excitement among North Huntsville residents. Councilman Keith shared that the community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with eager anticipation for the project to begin as soon as possible. In his words, “It’s something unique that I think is going to have a myriad of users and offer opportunities especially for those individuals to walk to and enjoy.”

Paving Way for The Future

The project is set to go to bid next month and once the ground is broken for the construction of the skating rink, it will take about a year to get completed. This development brings along a new chapter of recreational activities for Stoner Park and its visitors, and is sure to inspire a wave of positivity among the residents of North Huntsville.
