HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) –

Huntsville Fire and Rescue crews responded to a fire Friday morning. Fire crews were called just before 9 a.m. to Whisperwood Way about a house fire. Fire officials say five crews responded to the home.

Neighbor’s Quick Intervention

A neighbor told WAFF he heard a popping sound and found his neighbor’s garage on fire. He said he then connected his hose from his home and tried hosing down the fire before fire crews arrived on the scene. The neighbor also said as the owner was gearing up to leave the house, the owner heard the popping sound and began hosing down the impacted area with the neighbor.

Huntsville Fire officials said the neighbor helped to contain the fire, as did the rain, making a big difference as the fire began spreading.

Possible Cause of the Fire

Fire officials said they believe the fire was caused by charcoal in a metal garbage can in the garage that was not entirely extinguished. It is unclear if there are any injuries at this time. WAFF will update with more information as it becomes available.
