‘It will feel like a mini city’: More in store for MidCity district
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Several new businesses are added to the MidCity district every year, but developers tell HERE NEWS that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.
If you’ve visited MidCity for a bite to eat or to shop lately, then you know there is a lot of construction underway. Several new businesses are added to the district every year, but developers tell HERE NEWS that they aren’t slowing down any time soon. Nadia Niakossary with RCP Companies said right now their big focus is getting people to live in the district, rounding out the ‘Eat, Play, Live’ aspect of MidCity. There are currently two big projects underway that will help them achieve the third goal. Anthem House and Wellory Living are two multi-family use buildings. Together, they will provide over 600 units for future tenants to live in the district. They are both under construction and will begin opening in phases in 2025.
Future Development
“Having people live in the district is that next crucial element of a mixed-use district because you now have people that are there during night time and shopping at the grocery stores and eating at restaurants after they get home from work,” Niakossary said. If you like to eat and shop, then you’re in luck. Niakossary said there are still several more dining and shopping opportunities on the way in MidCity. Both Anthem House and Wellory Living will have retail space available on the ground floor.
Additional Dining Options
Tupelo Honey and Blue Oak BBQ are two new dining options under construction. Niakossary said there is still so much more to come, but progress will take patience. “I think we have at least another 10 years for MidCity, we’re only about 30% done with MidCity right now,” Niakossary said. “What you see out there today doesn’t even scratch the surface on what it will be in 10 years.
City Development Plans
“It will feel like a mini city when it’s all said and done.” The City of Huntsville is also building Apollo Park in between the Orion Ampitheatre and Top Golf. City leaders say once it’s complete, it will be similar to Big Spring Park in downtown. As for what’s next, Niakossary said they have three hotels in design and are currently planning their next phase of construction. Once some of the current projects wrap up, they will begin building even more shops and restaurants behind the Orion Ampitheatre.
