After an incredible 35-year journey in the hospitality and tourism sector, Arighi, the Director of Sales and Event Services at the Von Braun Center (VBC), has shared the bittersweet news of her retirement, effective January 1, 2025. Her departure marks the end of an era in which she has helped shape the events landscape in Huntsville.
Marie’s story in the hospitality world began back in 1989 at the Howard Johnson in Madison. Over the years, she honed her skills at various establishments, including Hilton Huntsville and Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, before making a significant leap to the Von Braun Center in 1999. This year is especially special for Marie; it marks her 35th anniversary in hospitality, with 25 of those years spent at the VBC.
Reflecting on her journey, Marie said, “It has been a rewarding journey.” Her words encapsulate the passion and dedication she has poured into her work. Throughout her time at the VBC, she has played a crucial role in securing conventions, tradeshows, and events that have not only brought thousands of visitors to the city but also significantly contributed to the local economy. The impact of her work is undeniable, and her colleagues recognize this wholeheartedly.
Steve Maples, the Executive Director of the VBC, praised Marie for her unwavering positivity and commitment: “Marie has been a cornerstone of our team. Her relentless positivity and passion for Huntsville have been infectious. Her impact on the VBC and the city has been immeasurable.” Such endorsements paint a picture of a leader who has not only excelled in her role but has also inspired many around her.
Throughout her illustrious career, Arighi has equipped herself with numerous professional certifications, showcasing her commitment to ongoing professional development. She has received various accolades for her contributions to the industry, including being named Supplier of the Year by the Society of Government Meeting Professionals. Additionally, she has actively participated in local and national organizations and was honored with the Region 3 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Association of the United States Army and the String of Pearls Leader award from the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.
As Huntsville prepares for Marie’s departure, the VBC is taking proactive steps to ensure its smooth transition. The Board of Control has announced that it will conduct a national search for Arighi’s successor. This search underscores the importance of her role and the level of expertise required to fill her shoes.
