Madison Mayor Paul Finley Declares He Will Not Seek Fourth Term

Madison Mayor Paul Finley Announces He Won’t Seek Fourth Term

In a heartfelt announcement, Madison Mayor Paul Finley revealed on Tuesday that he will not run for a fourth term in office. The news came during an emotional press conference held that morning. Finley expressed a strong desire to focus on personal matters, particularly cherishing more time with his family—his mother and children. With just ten months remaining in his current term, he plans to make the absolute most of that time.

A Legacy of Leadership

During his address, Finley reflected on his journey as the mayor of Madison, stating, “Serving as Mayor of this incredible city has been the honor of my lifetime and truly the highlight of my professional career.” His tenure has been marked by numerous accomplishments that have significantly contributed to the growth and development of this vibrant community.

Finley stressed the remarkable progress made in Madison, crediting the collaborative efforts of residents and local leaders. He proudly mentioned initiatives like the new elementary school and crucial road construction projects in nearby Limestone County. In addition, he highlighted the successful development of key facilities, including the Wellness Center, Safety Annex, and Senior Center, which he believes play a pivotal role in improving the quality of life for all Madison residents.

Community Focus

Looking back, Finley couldn’t help but remind everyone of some notable highlights during his time in office. The establishment of Toyota Field and the development of the Town Madison District have been monumental projects that are reshaping the city’s landscape. Finley was also instrumental in bringing Madison Hospital to the community, enhancing accessibility to healthcare services for residents.

Despite the joys that come with public service, Finley shared that making the decision not to run again was not easy. “At one point, I really struggled with how to leave this role to someone else,” he admitted. However, he now embraces the notion that new voices and ideas can bring great change and addition to the city’s future. It’s about creating opportunities and encouraging fresh perspectives that will continue to nurture Madison.

Looking Ahead

As Finley prepares to spend his remaining time in office, he emphasizes the importance of finishing strong. He expressed his dedication to maintaining a focused responsibility on community enhancement projects while ensuring the well-being of Madison’s residents. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and am confident Madison’s brightest days lie ahead,” he stated passionately.

Finley first took office in 2008 but decided against running for re-election in 2012. He successfully won his second term in 2016 and then a third term in 2020. As he steps aside, the race for Madison’s next mayor will take place on August 26, 2025. The upcoming election will undoubtedly be a significant moment for the community as it welcomes new leadership.

Gratitude and Growth

Ultimately, Mayor Finley’s journey reflects a sincere commitment to his community and family. His emotional address stressed the importance of family ties and the blessings of spending time with loved ones—an aspect of life he now cherishes more than ever. Madison residents can look forward to the final months of Finley’s leadership, with the anticipation of what the future might hold for their beloved city.
