The Leaders to Legends Program is designed specifically for high school sophomores in both Tuscaloosa City and County schools. Participants in this exciting initiative will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on sessions every month, diving into the many facets of Tuscaloosa’s rich economic, social, historical, and political landscapes. It’s not just about sitting in a classroom—think interactive learning, engaging discussions, and real-world experiences that take your leadership skills to the next level.

One of the standout features of this program is the chance to connect with community leaders who will mentor you throughout your journey. Originally kicked off as the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama’s Forerunners program, the Leaders to Legends initiative is now gearing up for its inaugural session starting in September. So, how can you get involved? Here’s what you need to know:

– Eligible participants are sophomores (currently in 10th grade) looking to step into their junior year. If that’s you, then you’re in luck!
– The application process opens on February 3 and runs through to March 7. Mark those dates on your calendar!
– Once applications are in, there will be interviews for selected candidates from March 13 to April 11—this is your chance to shine!
– Decision letters will be sent out in May, letting you know if you made the cut.

What to Expect

A select team of 40 students will be chosen each year by an interview committee from Leadership Tuscaloosa. If you’re selected, you’ll need to complete registration documents and commit to attending all monthly sessions. These sessions aren’t just educational; they’ll be held at various exciting locations, including the University of Alabama campus, Shelton State Community College, and the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy.
