Kitchen Cops Shut Down Mini-Mart in Madison County After AC Unit Leaks onto Food Prep Area

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Kitchen Cops shut down mini-mart as AC unit leaks onto food prep area

The Kitchen Cops has the latest round of scores throughout Madison County.

The Kitchen Cops say they had to shut down one food mart on the spot during an inspection in Madison County this week. It happened at the Maysville Food Mart. That’s inside the Chevron at Maysville Road and Ryland Pike. Inspectors say they saw dirty soda nozzles, and multiple foods nearly 20 degrees over the recommended temperature in a cooler. But the final straw was seeing wastewater from the air conditioner dripping from the ceiling onto the food prep area. The mini-mart was shut down immediately until the issues were fixed. The business was allowed to reopen once inspectors approved the repairs a short time later. The Maysville Food Mart scores an 80.

Two spots in Huntsville tied for the lowest score in Madison County this week, with both earning a 79. First up is the Sunoco at University and Pulaski. It was written up for dirty soda nozzles, raw eggs stored outside of the fridge, and no one working with food safety certifications. The other business with a 79 this week is the Chevron on Meridian Street next to MLK Elementary. It had a dirty ice machine and no thermometer. It was also written up for operating outside category restrictions. The inspection sheet didn’t go into detail on that infraction. This usually involves businesses only approved to sell pre-packaged foods that are seen cooking foods on site without a permit, though situations may vary.

Mike’s Mini Mart at Winchester Road and Meridian Street in Huntsville gets an 80. It lost points for missing employee health training paperwork, cheese and milk at the wrong temperature, and multiple sinks without paper towels. There was also an issue with one sink pouring wastewater onto the floor whenever it was turned on.

Limestone and Morgan County’s latest Kitchen Cops scores.

Limestone County

The Tanner Chevron on Huntsville Brownsferry Road gets an 85 due to dirty soda nozzles and black residue in the ice machine. Inspectors returned to the store three days after their initial inspection and found these problems had not been resolved, and issued a notice of intent to suspend the license. The problems were finally fixed when they came back for a third visit on May 15th.

Morgan County

El Carrizal in Hartselle has the lowest score out of any restaurant in north Alabama this week with a 74. There was a bucket in a handwashing sink, no food temperature probe, and no sanitizer in the dishwasher. BB Perrins in Decatur had a dirty ice machine, sauce at the wrong temperature, and no date markings on some foods, giving it a score of 79. Mister Henry’s in Hartselle has an 82 because of a dirty can opener and issues with the mop sink. The Jack’s on Highway 20 and Woodall Road also has an 82, due to cleaning chemicals stored on the ice maker and dirty ladles.
