Job Fair in North Alabama Offers Parolees Hope for Employment and Education

Huntsville, Alabama

Transforming Lives Through Employment

For people on parole in Alabama, finding employment can be the catalyst for life-altering change. A unique career event offering opportunities for employment and education is set to take place in Huntsville this month. The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles along with Alabama Power, the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College are all collaboratively hosting a mobile job fair. Organizers see it as a positive way to cut down state recidivism while concurrently expanding Alabama’s workforce participation.

An Unconventional Job Fair

Taking place on April 18, the fair will be held at the Huntsville Day Reporting Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The job fair will operate via a unique mobile expo, the Alabama Experience, or ALEX. Coordinated within a spacious trailer rigged with interactive digital kiosks, ALEX regularly travels across Alabama to assist people in their search for jobs and requisite training.

The event will function as a platform for companies looking for manpower, offering on-the-spot job interviews. Moreover, there will be recruiters presenting trade programs in areas such as heavy equipment operation, forklift driving, and skid steer operation.

Companies Eager to Hire Parolees

Amazon, Limestone Staffing, SK Staffing Solutions, and Turner Construction are some of the companies confirmed to participate, expressing interest in hiring formerly incarcerated individuals and those currently on parole.
Training opportunities in sheet metal work, as well as positions for millwrights and electricians, will also be advertised. Attendees can access information regarding trades and post-high school education routes, digitally matching prospective applicants with specific industries or workplaces.

Statements from Eminent Figures

Parole Bureau Director Cam Ward, Ingram State President Annette Funderburk, and Alabama Power’s Vice President of Labor Relations and Workforce Development Jerry Grissom are scheduled to address the attendees at the fair. Their speeches are anticipated to inspire and motivate parolees towards constructive life paths.

Seeking A Second Chance
