Bob Jones Girls’ Basketball Coach Jazmine Powers Carr Resigns after 5 Seasons

Jazmine Powers Carr, the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Bob Jones High School, has announced her resignation after five successful seasons. Carr led the Patriots to a remarkable season in 2023-24, where they were ranked No. 1 throughout the year. Despite their impressive performance, Bob Jones fell short in the Northwest Regional finals, losing to the four-time defending state champion Hoover by a close margin of 58-55.

The Patriots ended the season with a commendable record of 29-4, with their defeat to Hoover snapping a 20-game winning streak. Carr expressed that her decision to resign was personal and in the best interest of her and her family. She plans to continue her teaching role at Bob Jones but remains uncertain about her future in coaching.

Success and Record

During her tenure at Bob Jones, Carr amassed a notable record of 108 wins and 41 losses. Prior to her time at Bob Jones, she coached for two years at Homewood High School and also spent a year at Cornerstone Christian in Birmingham. With a career coaching record standing at 158 wins and 79 losses, Carr has proven herself as a capable and successful leader in girls’ high school basketball.

Background and Career

Originally from Decatur and a graduate of Austin High School, Carr has a deep-rooted passion for basketball. She further pursued her love for the sport at Samford University, where she played basketball and earned her degree. Carr also gained valuable experience working as an assistant coach at Samford for four seasons before transitioning into a head coaching role.

Future Plans

As Carr steps away from her position at Bob Jones, the school’s principal, Sylvia Lambert, has yet to comment on the resignation. With her successful track record and dedication to the sport, Carr’s future endeavors in basketball remain eagerly anticipated by fans and colleagues.
