Good morning, Jackson County! It’s a gray day out there today; you might want to grab an umbrella as light rain is expected throughout the morning. With temperatures rising to around 71°F and a gentle breeze from the southwest, it’s definitely a cozy kind of day to settle in and catch up on some exciting local news.
As we head into October, there’s some really great news that residents of Jackson County have been waiting for: the official switch back to the Huntsville Designated Market Area (DMA) is finally happening! If you’ve been feeling a little disconnected from the North Alabama channels since the switch to Chattanooga, you’re in for a treat. This decision means that you’ll have access to the local Huntsville channels once again, which was no small feat to achieve.
The journey back to the Huntsville DMA has been a true team effort among local leaders and residents. Many folks felt that being in the Chattanooga DMA meant missing out on not just entertainment, but essential weather coverage and local news that really matters to our community. Most importantly, over 50,000 residents depend on our local TV stations for accurate information about severe weather conditions.
Congressman Dale Strong expressed his enthusiasm about the transition, saying, “When I first learned that Jackson County would be moving to a Tennessee TV DMA, I knew I had to get to work.” This reflects the collective sentiment in our neighborhoods, as reliable weather updates and state-specific news are crucial, especially during unpredictable weather seasons.
The entire process to bring Jackson County back to the Huntsville DMA was lengthy, involving numerous petitions, letters, and statements submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). After a six-month waiting game, Jackson County residents can look forward to a much-needed switch back by October 2, or even sooner! “We’ve already had communications with at least one of the TV stations in Huntsville and they’re ready (for the switch),” shared Scottsboro Mayor Jim McCamy.
Now that we are on the brink of this exciting change, make sure to keep an eye out for your favorite local programs returning to your screen! Whether it’s news, entertainment, or sports, being updated with the happenings locally will feel great once again. No longer will we have to switch to Tennessee stations for the essential updates about our community.
As we sit here awaiting the switch, let’s remember to keep an eye on today’s overcast skies as well. There’s always a chance of a light rain shower with a low tonight around 64°F. As the winds are expected to be light, it’s the perfect evening to cuddle up with a movie or catch up on some reading from the comfort of your living room.
So, Jackson County, let’s celebrate this wonderful news and look forward to the returns of some familiar faces and programs on our screens soon. Here’s hoping for clearer skies ahead, both in the weather and our local broadcasts!
