HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The woman accused of drowning her 2-year-old daughter in 2022 has been indicted by a Huntsville grand jury. Laccuina Braithwaite, 25, was arrested in July 2022 after she allegedly drowned her daughter in a bathtub filled with cold water and olive oil. Braithwaite was charged with Capital Murder and booked into the Madison County Jail where she has since been held without bond.
On March 22, 2024, a grand jury indicted her on the Capital Murder charge.
The incident took place in July 2022 when authorities received a distress call from Braithwaite’s residence in Huntsville. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of her 2-year-old daughter in a bathtub filled with cold water and olive oil. Braithwaite was immediately taken into custody and charged with Capital Murder.
Since her arrest, Braithwaite has been held without bond at the Madison County Jail. The recent indictment by a grand jury further solidifies the case against her. The Capital Murder charge indicates that prosecutors believe there was premeditation and intent behind the drowning of her daughter.
The news of Braithwaite’s indictment has sparked mixed reactions in the community. While some believe that justice should be served for the tragic loss of the young child, others express shock and disbelief at the heinous nature of the crime.
As Braithwaite’s case moves forward, the next step will be the trial where evidence will be presented, witnesses will testify, and a verdict will be reached. The Huntsville community will be closely following the proceedings as they unfold.
