HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The dream of an easy exit to Town Madison and Toyota Field from Huntsville is one step closer to reality. Ever since 2020, people coming from Huntsville and other points east have faced a never-ending traffic jam on Madison Boulevard, waiting to turn on Zierdt Road to get to Trash Panda games and Town Madison shops. But soon, a new exit on I-565 will connect those westbound travelers directly with the area. Construction on the project has been underway for months, and the finished product is starting to take shape.
Starting Sunday night, June 2nd, crews will be installing girders for the next pieces of the overpass connecting I-565’s westbound lanes to the ballpark and shopping center. Construction workers will be closing I-565 westbound at Madison Boulevard, starting at 10:00 p.m. Sunday and diverting drivers down exit 13. The drivers will be allowed to resume travel westbound on 565 at Wall Triana. The road will reopen at 4 a.m. Monday. This process will repeat every night until Thursday, June 6th, weather permitting. We’re told traffic lights on Madison Boulevard have been adjusted to accommodate the extra traffic during the overnight detours.
There’s still no official end date for the project or opening date for the new off-ramp. Crews are working diligently to ensure the timely completion of this crucial infrastructure improvement.
The overnight closures to I-565 may cause temporary disruptions to commuters, but the long-term benefits of a smoother and more direct route to Town Madison and Toyota Field are well worth the inconvenience. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes during the construction period and follow designated detour signs to navigate the affected area successfully.
As work progresses on the Town Madison ramp project, stay tuned for updates on the completion timeline and opening date of the new off-ramp. The continued development of this exit promises improved accessibility and convenience for residents, visitors, and businesses in the Huntsville area.
