Sponsor Our ArticlesAs March ends and April begins, Huntsville experiences warmer temperatures and rainfall. Average March temperatures reached 56.5°F, slightly above normal, and 4.67 inches of rain fell. April promises mixed weather with warmer days and potential frost at night. An average of 4.86 inches of rain is expected in April, with warnings for flash flooding in some areas. Residents should remain cautious, especially with a tornado watch currently in effect. Overall, prepare for a variable April but look forward to sunnier days ahead.
Hey there, Huntsville! As March rolls out and April rolls in, let’s chat about what the weather has been up to and what you can expect in the coming days.
First off, did you feel that extra warmth last month? The average temperature in Huntsville for March was 56.5 degrees, which is a cozy 2.3 degrees above the usual average. Not too shabby for the early spring vibes, right?
But it wasn’t all sunshine and clear skies, as Huntsville also had its fair share of rain. We saw about 4.67 inches of rainfall throughout March, just a smidge below the average of 5.39 inches. So, for those of you who love a good drizzle now and then, it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Now that we’ve waved goodbye to March, let’s look ahead to April! Typically, April brings an average temperature of nearly 63 degrees. If you’re out and about this week, you’ll notice that temperatures are starting off rather pleasantly, significantly above average.
However, don’t put those jackets away just yet! Next week, temperatures are forecasted to take a bit of a nosedive, potentially dropping into the 30s. Yep, you read that right! So be prepared for those chilly surprises. There’s even a chance of some early morning frost as the temps fall at night.
In fact, just this past week, multiple rounds of heavy rain led to dangerous flooding in low-lying areas. Between the rain that’s already come down—about 1.5 to 2.5 inches—and the forecast predicting an additional 1 to 2 inches, it’s safe to say that puddles aren’t the only concern. Make sure to stay safe and avoid those flooded spots!
But wait, there’s more! A tornado watch is currently in effect until 3 AM for parts of North and Central Alabama. Just the other day, reports confirmed an EF-1 tornado that cut through Lauderdale County, boasting winds at a brisk 105 mph. The tornado traveled a path of around 16.75 miles and caused damage primarily to trees while keeping injuries thankfully at bay.
With all this wild weather, it’s good to remember that Huntsville has its resilient spirit. By next week, as the storms wind down and the clouds start to clear, we’ll see highs returning to the 60s. So even though we might start off April with some ups and downs, we can always look forward to those sunny days returning.
As we transition into the new month, grab your jackets, keep those umbrellas handy, and keep your spirits high, Huntsville! We’re in for a mix of weather, and it’s best to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store. Stay safe and enjoy the spring!
