Huntsville, AL — In a heartfelt tribute, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has named Huntsville veteran Command Sergeant Major Kevin Harkey as the “Veteran of the Month” for August. The announcement was made via a video shared on Senator Tuberville’s social media platforms on August 3.
Command Sergeant Major Harkey boasts an impressive 31-year military career, with deployments in countries including Honduras, Iraq, and Kosovo. His dedication to service has not only been seen overseas but also within his own community. Senator Tuberville expressed admiration for Harkey’s embodiment of the military’s values of team and family, stating, “For Command Sergeant Major Kevin Harkey, he shares these family values with those who need it most in his community.”
In honor of the 30th anniversary of his enlistment, Harkey created a study guide aimed at helping upcoming soldiers navigate their military journeys. His commitment to mentorship extends beyond the battlefield, as he actively engages with young people in the Huntsville area.
Even after retiring from military duties, Harkey remains a role model for local teens, dedicating his free time to mentoring students at community centers. As a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, he reaches out to teenagers, particularly those from single-parent households, instilling strong values and life skills.
Senator Tuberville has established a monthly recognition program to honor Alabama veterans for their sacrifices and contributions. Each month, a different veteran is highlighted for their service and their ongoing impact in the community.
The full video honoring Harkey can be found on Senator Tuberville’s official social media pages, celebrating the remarkable achievements and continued contributions of this incredible veteran.
