Published: July 15, 2024

Huntsville, AL —

The results are in! The Huntsville Times Athletes of the Year for the 2023-24 school year have been selected by our readers. According to the polls, one local school outshone all others with their athletic prowess: Westminster Christian.

Residents Cast Their Votes

Overwhelmingly, residents chose Wildcats quarterback Brandon Musch and soccer star AnnaLi Weekley as the year’s top athletes. With an impressive 93 percent of votes, Musch was the clear victor in the boys’ poll, with Weekley earning a similarly wide margin of victory on the girls’ side.

The Competition wasn’t far behind

Caleb Holt of Buckhorn, who was honored as Mr. Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, finished second in the boys’ poll. Fyffe tailback Logan Anderson and ASWA’s Mr. Baseball Braden Booth of Bob Jones rounded out the top four contenders.

Westminster Christian once again in the Spotlight

While Musch and Weekley certainly deserve acknowledgment for their hard-won victories, credit must also be given to their alma mater. Westminster Christian’s successes on both the football field and the soccer pitch speak volumes about the institution’s commitment to athletic excellence.

This achievement is the culmination of countless hours of training, unyielding dedication, and an indomitable competitive spirit possessed by these young athletes. And the voters saw it too, with their choices clearly reflecting their admiration for these sporting stars.

Admiration for All Athletes

The voting for this year’s Athletes of the Year is an opportunity for our local community to come together and celebrate the achievements of all our young athletes. Even those who did not make the main list have shown great dedication and heart in representing their schools and their teams. It is this spirit of sport and camaraderie that we celebrate in each Athlete of the Year vote.

Looking to the Future

Taking a moment to recognize the accomplishments of our athletes is more than just an annual tradition. It highlights the strength of our community and the potential that lies within each of its members. Today, we congratulate Brandon Musch and AnnaLi Weekley; tomorrow, we look forward to the future, eager to see who will rise to the occasion and become Huntsville’s next beloved athletic icons.
