Huntsville’s Kitchen Cops Uncover Mixed Results in Latest Restaurant Inspections

Huntsville’s Kitchen Cops: Recent Restaurant Inspection Reports Revealed

Hey there, food lovers of Huntsville! We’re bringing you the latest buzz from the kitchens around the area as the Kitchen Cops have been busy inspecting local eateries. It seems that despite our hopes, there are still some surprising finds in the region’s culinary scene. Let’s dive into the scoop!

Limestone County: A Fishy Situation

First up, we turn our attention to Limestone County, where the Jiff Mart on West Market and Hine Street scored a 77. It looks like the inspectors came across some pretty alarming items during their visit, including rotting fish nestled in the fridge, which was promptly tossed out. And that’s not all—there was also a live roach hanging around in the food area. Luckily, after a follow-up inspection a few days later, everything seemed to be in order with no sign of those creepy crawlies. The Jiff Mart also had a warmer that was having a bit of trouble keeping food at the right temperature, but good news—the issue was fixed by the time of the second inspection.

Madison County: Ups and Downs

Moving on to Madison County, the bustling Baumhower’s Victory Grille on South Parkway scored a 78, with multiple issues involving food temperatures in the reach-in cooler. Just like the Jiff Mart, they were quick to rectify the problems before the follow-up. However, those moldy strawberries in the cooler didn’t make it, having to be thrown out along with a dirty ice chute. Not the best report card!

Meanwhile, the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel scored an 84 due to some concerns over food temperatures, a dirty can opener, and even damaged plastic containers. Oh dear! Their dishwasher had no temperature indicator, which is crucial for ensuring everything is cleaned properly.

And how could we forget about Cracker Barrel on Drake Avenue? They managed a score of 85, which is technically a passing grade, but their license was temporarily suspended during the inspection. What happened? They had a clogged drain that caused wastewater to pool in the kitchen. Thankfully, the issue was resolved that same day, and their license was back in action!

Hartselle’s Lower Scores

Things were looking a bit rougher in Morgan County, specifically Hartselle, where four businesses failed to hit that 85 mark. The Dari-Delite scored the lowest across all of North Alabama this week with a 69. Yikes! Their men’s room was missing paper towels, and inspector notes found several items without proper date markings. The place had not one but two broken fryer baskets, plus mold in the ice machine and ice bins. To top it all off, their ice cream machine was also a bit under the weather when it came to temperature.

Just a bit up Highway 31, El Carrizal came in with an 81. Their report mentioned broken fryer baskets, dirty soda nozzles, and a couple of unlabeled bottles. Not exactly what you want to see when grabbing a meal! The Reeves Peach Farm also managed to score a 82, but they had quite a few unexpected guests noted during the inspection—numerous crickets. While that’s all fine and dandy for a farm, they were cited for no handwashing sink at the grilling area and dented cans that had to go.

Finally, we have Shell on 6th Avenue and 14th Street in Decatur at an 83, primarily due to an inaccessible handwashing sink and dirty drink nozzles. Even McDonald’s on Highway 31 at Main Street got mixed reviews with a score of 84 for broken fryer baskets and dirty soda nozzles.

Stay Vigilant!

So there you have it, Huntsville! While some places are doing well, others have some work to do to ensure your dining experience is both safe and pleasant. This goes to show how essential it is for all of us to stay informed about the food we consume. Until next time, keep those appetites ready, and let’s hope for some state-of-the-art cleanliness in our beloved eateries!
