Huntsville – Alabama’s Philanthropic Project of the Year
In Huntsville, a longstanding fundraising event by the Huntsville Hospital Foundation has been crowned as Alabama’s Philanthropic Project of the Year. Awarded for its overwhelming success and influential impact, the Hospital’s 2023 Huntsville Classic concert was recognized during Business Alabama Magazine’s March 1 awards assembly in Birmingham.
A Record-Breaking Event
The 2023 Huntsville Classic was a trailblazing event for not just Huntsville, but the North Alabama region as a whole, raising an impressive $1.7 million. These funds have been utilized to completely cover the cost of a cutting-edge cardiac CT scanner for the charitable Huntsville Hospital Heart Center. This advanced equipment is now improving access to and outcomes for heart patients by significantly cutting diagnostic wait times from several months to merely weeks.
Arrival of State-of-the-Art CT Scanner
A revolutionary addition to the Heart Center, the new CT scanner is expected to arrive in June. This high-tech scanner will be one of only a few of its kind in the nation, putting Huntsville Hospital at the forefront of coronary CT imaging.
Morgan Dennis, vice president of Huntsville Hospital’s Heart Center and Cardiovascular Service Line, elaborated on the benefits of this technologically advanced equipment. “This innovative technology is a paradigm shift in imaging, and provides a substantially better resolution image while also giving our patients significantly less radiation. This improves the diagnostic capabilities for our physicians, allowing for early detection of coronary disease and the opportunity to provide preventative treatment.”
Unprecedented Local Support
The much applauded and lauded Huntsville Classic sponsors and guests were critical in the purchase of this technology. Over 4,600 people attended the May 20, 2023, benefit concert featuring country legend Martina McBride. A variety of organizations were nominated for the 2024 Business Alabama Awards. Other Philanthropic Project of the Year nominees included Alabama Power Foundation, Bank Independent Life Without Limits Half-Marathon, Full Moon BBQ’s Backpack Blessings, and Redstone Federal Credit Union’s support of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama.
