Huntsville Engineering and Support Center Races to a Successful Fiscal Year End

Huntsville, AL – As the fiscal year came to a close on September 30, the Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Alabama, wrapped up a remarkable year of service by issuing over 3,900 contract actions that totaled around $2.6 billion. This impressive feat emphasizes their unyielding commitment to supporting America’s warfighters and various federal agencies.

A Closer Look at the Numbers

According to Lelani Banks, the Huntsville Center’s Business Operations Branch chief, most of the obligations came from the Installation Support and Program Management Directorate, which accounted for more than $2 billion of the total. That’s a staggering amount that truly illustrates the center’s role in ensuring military readiness and efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Ordnance and Explosives Directorate contributed over $148 million to the effort, while the Engineering Directorate accounted for more than $55 million. In addition, cooperative agreements played a significant role with 338 contract actions valued at more than $96 million.

Top Programs from the Past Year

The center highlighted its top five programs for the fiscal year, and they all belong to the Installation Support and Program Management team. Here’s how they stack up:

  • DLA-Fuels: Obligated over $372 million
  • Utility Metering and Controls Systems: More than $329 million
  • Energy Savings Performance Contracting: Around $195 million
  • Medical Operation and Maintenance Engineering Enhancement: Exceeded $191 million
  • Medical Repair and Renewal: Surpassed $183 million

Support for Small Businesses

A noteworthy aspect of the Huntsville Center’s fiscal achievements is the substantial amount of about $900 million that went to small businesses. Nicole Boone, the Office of Small Business Programs director, emphasized that supporting small businesses is vital for the nation’s economic growth. “Optimizing business opportunities for small businesses strengthens the nation’s economic development,” she shared.

Boone articulated that the Huntsville Center is dedicated to being a key player within the Army’s small business initiatives, ensuring that these enterprises are prioritized when it comes to awarding contracts.

During a wrap-up meeting, Arthur Martin III, the center’s programs director, expressed his gratitude toward employees for their hard work and commitment. He emphasized that the center’s contributions are crucial to the nation’s security, stating, “I’m so very grateful to have each one of you working for the good of our nation in steadfast support of our warfighters.” His heartfelt words served as a reminder that every employee’s efforts truly make a difference, often impacting individuals they may never meet.

Similarly, Col. Sebastien Joly, the Huntsville Center commander, praised the team’s dedication. He observed that the project development teams were busy collaborating in team rooms and that morale remained high in areas like break rooms and the center’s gym. “Every member of Huntsville Center plays a crucial role in delivering quality projects, on time, within budget, and safely,” he pointed out.
