Huntsville Welcomes Navy Veterans for Epic 500-Mile Ride!
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – This Saturday, October 5, Huntsville will be buzzing with excitement as a group of Navy veterans embarks on an incredible 500-mile journey to Orange Beach. These riders, all proud members of the Naval Academy class of ’83, will kick off their adventure bright and early at 9 a.m., leaving from the iconic Space and Rocket Center.
A Journey with Purpose
What started as a simple reunion for the class of 1983 has transformed into something much bigger. These veterans have decided to combine their love for riding with a mission to support their fellow veterans. Each rider is supporting a specific veterans-focused organization, leveraging their journey to raise funds and awareness.
“For us, it’s not just about getting together and hitting the road; it’s about making a difference,” says James Sherrard, one of the riders from Huntsville. He’s chosen to support Still Serving Veterans, a local charity committed to helping veterans in Huntsville and throughout North Alabama. “There are so many veterans in our community who need support, and I know this organization is dedicated to making a positive impact.”
The Financial Goal
The riders have set an ambitious goal to raise $1,983,000 during their ride. Yes, you read that right – they are aiming for a significant sum to aid veterans’ organizations. So far, they have made impressive strides, having raised over $800,000 already! It’s all about camaraderie, support, and giving back.
Tracking Their Progress
The riders will be on the road for a week, with a planned arrival in Orange Beach on October 11. Each day brings new challenges and experiences, and onlookers will have the chance to cheer these brave souls on as they travel through our beautiful state. If you’d like to follow their journey, maps outlining their progress are available, showing their planned route each day.
More Than Just a Ride
This event is more than just a motorcycle ride; it’s a powerful reminder of the bond shared by veterans. It speaks volumes about the sense of community and the drive to support those who have served our country. It’s heartwarming to see these individuals come together not only for a reunion but to uplift those in need in their own community.
Get Involved!
If you’re inspired by this initiative and want to contribute, consider supporting the riders by donating to the organization they’re riding for. Each donation counts and helps ensure that veterans in need receive the assistance they deserve. From local charities to nationwide programs, the impact of your contributions can be significant.
