Forum with Huntsville School Board Candidates Set

Huntsville is gearing up for a significant event as two local education advocacy groups are jointly hosting a forum featuring candidates for the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education. The forum is scheduled to take place on August 12, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Academy for Academics and Arts, located at 4800 Sparkman Dr NW.

What to Expect at the Forum

The forum, organized by Huntsville Council PTA and The Schools Foundation, gives residents an opportunity to engage with the six candidates vying for two different school board seats. While it’s yet to be confirmed whether the event will be livestreamed or archived online, interested attendees can expect candid discussions about the future of Huntsville’s education system.

Candidates in the Spotlight

In the race for the District 1 seat representing north Huntsville, four candidates are in contention:

  • Chaundra M. Jones
  • Claudia Harris
  • Will Culver
  • Pat King

For District 5, which represents the west side of the city, the candidates are:

  • Incumbent Carlos Mathews
  • Zara R. Broadenax

Community Engagement

This forum represents a proactive approach for the community to engage with the individuals who may influence educational policies and local schools. It provides a platform for candidates to share their visions, respond to questions, and address the concerns of residents.

As the date approaches, parents and community members are encouraged to participate and make their voices heard. This is an essential opportunity to understand where each candidate stands on important issues affecting Huntsville schools.
