In Huntsville, Alabama, The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) recently conducted a grand celebration commemorating the achievements of their remarkable students, staff and faculty. This showpiece event, known as the Honors Day, came to life on the 5th of April 2024.
The proceedings of the day began in the morning with the Honors College’s Medallion Ceremony held at the Charger Union Theater. Plan of the day included special recognition of students who had successfully been inducted into honor societies, those who had made it to the Dean’s List and President’s List, as well as high achievers in various scholastic programs throughout the academic year.
Apart from recognizing the students, faculty and staff members who had made profound contributions to the students’ educational journey, were also applauded during this occasion.
The program marked the celebration of not only individual success stories, but also witnessed the appreciation of the unparalleled faculty contribution, with their innovative methods of interacting with students, thus enhancing their classroom experience and initiating them into the world of research, internships and other relevant activities.
Each of the six distinctive academic zones of UAH, namely, the Colleges of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering; Nursing, and Science put forth events exclusively for their students, honouring the invited high-achievers. These events were followed by individual academic awards and special inductions for students maintaining a high academic standard throughout their learning years.
The event of this year stood out with the inclusion of special features like high-tea for Dean’s and President’s List students, and presenting prizes for various academic contests specific to each college. For instance, the College of Business organised a unique Honor’s Banquet to commemorate its Top 20 stellar students.
The College of Education introduced the Dodd-Elder Physical Education Major of the Year award, a novel tribute towards student excellence. This award was presented by the esteemed alumni duo, Caroline Dodd McAnally and Chandler Elder Smith.
The day-long salute to talent and hard work culminated with the College of Science introducing two new awards for this year. The first being the Part-Time Teaching Excellence Award, aimed to honour exceptional part-time instructors who have applied innovative techniques in teaching and consistently prioritized student success. The day ended on a high note with the Honors Distinction Awards for Community Recognition, the second new award, which was introduced to highlight student achievements beyond the classroom walls.
Each day is a proud moment for UAH, but ‘Honors Day’ is a special celebration which allows UAH to showcase the hard work and dedication of its students, faculty and staff on a grand platform, thus inspiring and motivating the entire UAH community.
