Exciting Halloween and Community Events Planned in Athens!

Exciting Events for Halloween and Beyond in Athens!

Hello, Athens! As we get ready to celebrate Halloween, there’s a buzzing excitement in the air. With only a day left until the spookiest night of the year, everyone is gearing up for some fantastic community events. So, grab your costumes and prepare to have a blast!

Trunk or Treat on the Square

This Halloween, on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., come out to the Square for the annual Trunk or Treat event sponsored by Athens and Limestone County First Responders. This event is a safe and fun way for kids to collect goodies. Imagine vibrant decorations, friendly staff dressed in costumes, and of course, lots of candy! It’s a great community gathering, so make sure to stop by. You might even spot some familiar faces in their spooky attire!

Books and Treats at the Library

Earlier that same day, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Ardmore Public Library will host a special Books and Treats program. It’s a delightful chance for kids to enjoy some stories while munching on sweet treats just before trick-or-treating begins. What a perfect combination, right?

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m. for a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive. This event follows the monthly Coffee Call and it will be held in their newly built park located at 114 W. Pryor St.. It’ll be a great opportunity to learn more about the museum and to meet fellow community members.

Used Book Sale

Also on Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., don’t miss the Used Book Sale organized by the Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library at 603 S. Jefferson St.. If you love books, prepare to dive into what could be your next favorite read!

Fall Chicken Stew Fundraiser

And for those looking to enjoy a hearty meal, the VFW Auxiliary #4765 will host their annual Fall Chicken Stew on Nov. 2 at 18165 Jefferson St.. Pre-sale pickup starts at 1 p.m., with regular sales beginning at 2 p.m.. For just $10 a quart, you can warm up with this comforting dish!

Sports and Arts Events

If sports are more your style, the 2024 Athens Police Department’s First Responders Softball Tournament has been postponed to Nov. 2, happening at the Athens Sportsplex. Make sure to participate, especially if your team includes at least seven first responders! By the way, prizes for the top teams are up for grabs!

Meanwhile, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the same day, the Athens Arts League invites you to their celebration of Dia De Los Muertos. Join them at High Cotton Arts for live music, delicious food trucks, and fun vendors offering arts and crafts. It promises to be a day filled with culture, creativity, and community spirit!

Upcoming Festivities for the Holidays

As we head towards November, remember to sign up for Toys for Tots on Nov. 6 at the United Way of Athens-Limestone County office from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.. This program is important for families with children ages birth to 12, so be sure to bring all necessary documents.

Thanksgiving Activities

Meanwhile, the New Life Church is organizing a free full-course meal on Nov. 16, starting at 11 a.m. for anyone needing some nourishment leading into Thanksgiving. It’s always heartwarming to see the community come together during these times!

As the weather warms up with highs around 79°F, and very pleasant evenings, it’s a beautiful time to gather and celebrate all that our community has to offer. So, whether you’re out trick-or-treating with the kiddos or enjoying one of the many events, happy Halloween and enjoy all the festivities Athens has in store for you!
