Exciting Weekend Events in Huntsville: Whistlestop Festival, Ribbon Run, and Grand Openings!

Exciting Weekend Awaits in Huntsville!

Hey there, Huntsville! If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, you’re in luck! With the cooler weather finally rolling in, there’s a full lineup of events that the whole family can enjoy. Whether you love music, want to support a great cause, or just feel like hanging out with friends, there’s something for you!

Whistlestop Festival 2024

First up, let’s talk about the Whistlestop Festival 2024 happening on Friday and Saturday at the lovely MidCity District. This festival is celebrating its 24th year, and it’s packed with live music, food competitions, and local vendors showcasing their amazing goods. You’ll definitely want to check it out, especially knowing that it supports the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum, which is working towards remodeling into a top-notch STEAM learning area for our kids.

The festival runs from October 18 to 19 and is a fantastic way to enjoy the festive atmosphere while contributing to a good cause. Tickets are fairly priced, with a weekend pass at just $45. If you’re planning to attend only on Friday, that’s $20, and Saturday alone is $25. For tickets, head over to whistlestopweekend.com. You don’t want to miss out on this fun-filled weekend!

21st Annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run

Next up, on Saturday morning, lace up your sneakers for the 21st Annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run. This heartfelt 5K event aims to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer support right here in our community. Starting at Lowe Avenue and Adams Street, the festivities kick off with a Survivor’s Walk at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m.

This year’s registration is just $50 and closes this Friday at Fleet Feet. A wonderful touch this year is that there’s no cost for breast cancer survivors to participate. They can grab special survivor bibs at the packet pickup or at the Huntsville Hospital Foundation tent on race day. This is a lovely way to contribute to an incredibly important cause while enjoying a great morning in our beautiful city. To register, check out runsignup.com before the deadline!

The Backyard Grand Opening

Last but certainly not least, wrap up your weekend by heading over to the grand opening of The Backyard at University Pickers. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, this new event space will be unveiled, and it’s going to be a fun time! Channel your inner southern charm and come dressed in your best sweet southern attire as you enjoy live music, sip on refreshing sweet tea, and indulge in delightful treats.

You’ll find this happy gathering at 3405 Triana Boulevard SW. Although there’s no cost to attend, we’re sure you’ll leave with a heart full of joy and perhaps a few goodies from the local vendors! For more details, visit facebook.com/events. It’s an exciting way to relax and connect with fellow locals!

Get Out There and Enjoy!

No matter how you spend your weekend, there are plenty of fantastic options to choose from. That’s what makes our community so special! So, get out there, enjoy the fresh air, meet some friends, and embrace the wonderful events happening right in our backyard.

If you see me around town, don’t be shy—be sure to say hey! Have a great time, Huntsville!
