Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Food City in Huntsville

Officials Break Ground on New Food City Location: Old Gurley Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The city of Huntsville will soon be the host to another Food City location, expanding supermarket options and doing much-needed work to reduce the presence of food deserts within the region. On Thursday, city and Food City officials congregated to hold a traditional groundbreaking ceremony for the new supermarket location on Old Gurley Road.

Food City’s Expansion into Huntsville

The plan for the new Food City location is part of a broader strategy by Madison County and the supermarket chain to open six new outlets within Huntsville alone, a move that is projected to create nearly 200 jobs for the community. The new locations are expected to be of great value, increasing accessibility to fresh produce and a wide range of groceries, thus serving residents who currently live in areas classified as food deserts.

Boost to Local Economy and Employment

In an official statement, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Food City, Steven C. Smith, expressed their excitement about expanding their retail operations to Huntsville and the potential positive impact on Madison County’s local economy. “We are excited to be joining the Huntsville retail community. We look forward to constructing a state-of-the-art supermarket on Old Gurley Road that will create quality jobs and tax revenue for the residents of Huntsville and Madison County,” said Mr. Smith.

Projected Opening and End of Construction

The overall development is currently underway, with Food City planning on opening their new location in the upcoming year. Although an official opening date has not yet been announced, locals can expect an end to construction and commencement of operations sometime in the next year, marking a new chapter for Food City’s expansion and urban development in Huntsville.

Concluding Remarks

The Food City project promises to transform Huntsville’s retail landscape. By creating job opportunities and bringing convenience to its residents, the new store aims to cultivate a positive impact on the community at large. The anticipation for the grand opening is mounting, and residents on Old Gurley Road and beyond eagerly look forward to the completion of the new, state-of-the-art supermarket.
