Exciting New Restaurants Set to Open in Athens, Alabama

Exciting New Restaurants Coming to Athens, Alabama

If you’re a foodie or just someone who loves trying out new spots for a good bite to eat, then Athens, Alabama, is about to get a whole lot more exciting! City officials have officially announced that four new restaurants are making their way to our lovely town. Yes, you heard that right! The lineup includes popular franchises like Texas Roadhouse, Five Guys, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and 7 Brew Drive-thru Coffee.

A Focus on Community Growth

Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks has emphasized the importance of having a variety of dining and shopping options to keep our community vibrant. He remarked, “To be a vibrant community, Athens has to offer diverse options for dining and shopping in order to support the local economy.” The mayor continued to explain how crucial both franchise establishments and small local businesses are for our town, stating, “We need the franchises, and we need the small businesses.”

City Council Approves Support

The good news doesn’t stop there! Just last night, the City Council approved multiple agreements that will support these new franchises, as well as local businesses. This move is expected to keep our sales tax dollars flowing right back into Athens, boosting the local economy and supporting important city services and schools. After all, did you know that sales tax revenue makes up about 40 percent of Athens’ budget? That’s significant!

Expansions and Renovations in Progress

Not only are we welcoming new eateries, but some local establishments are also getting a boost of their own. For instance, Ro’s Grille, located along N. Jefferson Street, will receive funding for an expansion to enhance its outdoor dining experience. It’s always lovely to enjoy a meal outside, and this expansion is sure to make summer evenings even more delightful!

Moreover, the Athens Alehouse and Cellar is also slated to receive financial support for renovation work at its new location on Marion Street. These local businesses are a cornerstone of Athens’ community spirit and contribute to its unique charm.

Looking Ahead: More to Come

Mayor Marks shared that the city is actively collaborating with developers for even more retail opportunities in both shopping and dining arenas. He noted, “This increases the sales tax revenue for the City of Athens and for the Athens City Schools.” It’s clear that growing our revenue base is a top priority, and this is fantastic news for everyone!

Timing for New Openings

While it’s thrilling to hear such promising development news, there’s still a little suspense in the air. As of now, there is no estimated timeline on when these restaurants will open their doors to customers. However, it’s definitely something to look forward to!

As Athens continues to grow and flourish, we all can look forward to sharing our town with new restaurants and gathering places. Whether you’re craving Texas Roadhouse’s famed ribs or a delicious burger from Five Guys, there’s something in store for everyone. Keep your eyes peeled, and your appetites ready, Athens!
