Exciting Events Rolling into Athens This Weekend!

Hello, Athens! As we roll into the weekend, the sun is set to shine brightly on all the fun events happening in our lovely city at a pleasant high of 83°F and a low around 55°F—what a perfect day for outdoor activities! With light winds keeping it comfortable, there’s plenty to look forward to this Saturday, October 12.

Cars, Cars, and More Cars!

If you’re a fan of vintage rides or just love seeing some eye-catching automobiles, don’t miss the 10th Annual Athens Cars at the Sportsplex. Thanks to Athens Cars on the Square and the Limestone County Mustang Club, this event promises to be a real treat! Doors open bright and early at 9 a.m. and will go until 2 p.m. at the Athens Sportsplex, just off U.S. Highway 31. Registration kicks off at 7:30 a.m. for those looking to showcase their prized vehicles, and it’s just $20 to enter. The best part? Entry is free for spectators! Plus, all proceeds from the event will support the Alabama Veterans Museum, so it’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Books and Brunch for Future Voters

Also happening on Saturday is the Monthly STEPS Book Club hosted by the Limestone County NAACP. The theme this month? “Future Voters.” Parents are invited to join their little ones for some brunch while learning about the importance of voter awareness. The event is catered for kids from preschool through eighth grade, and starts at 9:30 a.m. ending at 11:30 a.m. It’s a wonderful opportunity to equip our youth with the knowledge they need for future citizenship. For more details or to register, check out their website or give them a call.

Walking for a Cause

Another fantastic event to check out is the Pink Lady Walk at Big Spring Memorial Park. Celebrating 10 years of service in raising awareness about breast cancer and the significance of early detection, this 5k walk/run kicks off at 8 a.m.. It’s a heartfelt way to engage with the community while supporting a critical cause. Whether you’re walking, running, or cheering from the sidelines, every bit of support counts! Celebration of Overcoming Addiction

Looking for a little bit more inspiration? The “I’m an Overcomer of Addiction Celebration” hosted by A Better Place to Go will take place at 4 p.m. at New Beginnings M.B. Church. Everyone is welcome to join this uplifting community event which focuses on choices, joy, and triumph over struggles. Let’s come together to celebrate resilience in our community. Reunions, Festivals, and More

And don’t forget, family is important! The Hyatt family reunion is also set for Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Baileyton Senior Center. A covered dish lunch will make it even more delightful! Of course, it’s just one of many activities happening in the coming weeks, including the Limestone County Marching Bands Night of the Bands event and the 18th Annual Athens Storytelling Festival Banquet. Mark your calendars for those dates because you won’t want to miss them!

Spooktacular Fun

Finally, as we move into October, the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association has kicked off their annual spooky Haunt Walk. This event runs every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month and promises thrilling tales and delightful scares, starting from the historic Athens Visitors Center.
