The completion of the first phase of the much-anticipated Ditto Landing Project in Huntsville, Ala. sparks fervent anticipation for the initiative’s next steps. Following plan submission to governing authorities and consequent state approval, project directors are currently waiting on city clearance to progress.
Propelling the project towards fruition, the architect recently finalized the music venue designs which constitute the first substantial development segment. “They’ve been sent to the state for approval, they have come back, and now they’re awaiting the city for approval,” stated Commissioner Phil Riddick. Upon receiving affirmation from the city and contracting the necessary builders, construction is slated to commence promptly.
One of the primary hurdles that formerly impeded progress was the lack of suitable access to the venue location. However, city officials championed the project by establishing a viable road and access point leading to the State Docks area, thereby facilitating development.
For myriad residents of Huntsville, the proposition of a music venue at Ditto Landing has been a piqued hope for years. “People are really looking forward to being able to go down to the river and have something to do. People are just kind of attracted to waterfronts. So we’re excited about being able to provide this for the community,” spoke Riddick, expressing the widespread enthusiasm for the project.
In response to popular suggestions gathered during public meetings held as part of the city’s ‘The Big Picture’ program, the administrators plan to invest received COVID relief funds from federal partners towards the actualization of the music venue. Additionally, the successful implementation of the same could pave the way for further developments, including campgrounds, more boat docks, and an outdoor amphitheater.
Upon project completion, the people can look forward to a hub for hosting concerts, weddings, social get-togethers, while also serving as a serene spot for witnessing picturesque sunsets and river views. “This is going to be kind of a culmination of several elements, one of which would be kind of a music venue,” added Riddick.
Commissioner Riddick indicated that, once initiated, the construction phase could span between 18 and 24 months, thus bringing the city one significant step closer to realizing its ambitious dream.
