County and city leaders look ahead to road repairs following rough winter weather

Madison Co., Ala. (WAFF) – After a winter season that saw rain, sleet, snow, and ice, Madison County leaders are getting started on their road repair wish-list. District One County Commissioner Tom Brandon said there have already been improvements in areas like Hazel Green, Meridianville, and Moore’s Mill that were hard hit by the ice storm. He said some of that damage was actually done by workers trying to clear the roads.

Repairing Road Damage

“A lot of times the reflectors on the sides of the roads or down the middle of the roads were knocked off due to the scraping and we have been out replacing reflectors both on the sides of the roads and down the center of the road,” Brandon said.

Inside Huntsville city limits, District 4 City Councilman Bill Kling said road repairs are decided by where they’re needed the most, regardless of what district they fall in. He said School Street — located downtown — and Harwood Drive are likely the next roads to see repairs.

Ongoing Process

“The idea is when they have a crew in a certain area, they’re going to cover as many potholes as possible,” Kling said. “That’s an ongoing process throughout the year, but now that springtime is here, they’re able to really go after it with a vengeance.”

Weather Conditions

This week’s weather was a wet one, but if the weeks ahead are as nice as today, road repairs throughout the spring should happen on schedule.
