Week of Caring Sows Seeds of Kindness

This week marks the 27th Annual Limestone County Week of Caring, running from September 16 to September 20. This cherished event, organized by the United Way of Athens-Limestone County, sees community volunteers come together to lend a helping hand. Notably, Rotarians joined forces with other volunteers to beautify the Mapleleaf area, transforming it into a stunning sanctuary that locals can enjoy.

Spiritual Revival Ready to Inspire

Meanwhile, from September 15 to September 18, local churches including Elk River Baptist Church and Salem Methodist Church are hosting a special cluster revival event. Motorcyclists from all over the nation will ride from Cherokee, NC, to Bridgeport, AL, paying homage to the history of Native Americans. Expect them to cruise through Athens on Saturday, September 21, in the afternoon. It’s always a sight to behold!

Looking to do some fall cleaning? On September 21, the Better Business Bureau and AARP Alabama are hosting Athens Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon at Athens State University. This free drive-thru document shredding service allows residents to safely dispose of up to three bags of unwanted paperwork. On Tuesday, September 24, the Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce and the Launchbox at Athens State University will honor local entrepreneurs at the 2024 Small Business Awards.
