Huntsville Nonprofit HEALS Inc. Hosts Gala to Support Children's Health Needs

Huntsville’s HEALS Inc. Gears Up for Gala to Change Children’s Lives

Huntsville, Alabama – As the holiday season rolls in, the spirit of giving is shining brighter than ever! A local nonprofit, HEALS Inc., is on a mission to make a difference in the lives of children in need, and they’re inviting everyone to join in on the fun and philanthropy at their upcoming event, “STARS Dancing for HEALS,” happening on December 5 at the Von Braun Center.

Every East Alabama Child Deserves Care

HEALS Inc. stands for Health Establishment for the Advancement of Learning and Service, and its bold mission is clear: providing primary health care and essential resources to underprivileged children in the Madison County area. Their efforts have been life-changing for so many families, making sure that no child has to go without necessary medical attention.

We took a trip to one of HEALS’ clinics located right inside Morris Elementary, where the magic starts! Picture walking into a school, and instead of just classrooms, you find a bustling clinic where children can receive care without having to leave school grounds. That’s right – no need for long drives or missed school days!

Meet Amanda McCrory: A Hero in the Clinic

One amazing face you’ll meet at the clinic is Amanda McCrory, a nurse practitioner whose heart beats for her community’s kids. “It’s amazing! The fact that we can be directly at the schools,” McCrory shared, brimming with enthusiasm. She’s not just treating ailments; she’s building relationships, checking in on kids, and playing a crucial role in their lives.

Take, for example, one young boy who came in struggling with severe asthma. McCrory didn’t just provide him with the necessary medication; she also discovered he and his mother were recently homeless, sleeping on piles of clothes without furniture. Thanks to the resources HEALS provides, they connected them with local services that provided free beds. Talk about a comprehensive approach!

A Growing Need in the Community

As the demand for services continues to rise, McCrory notes that there are many low-income families in Madison County without insurance, which can mean delayed healthcare for children. “I have kids come in for their first visit, who are 5, 10, and 15 years-old and they’ve never been seen by a doctor,” she explains. It’s a shocking reality for many, but HEALS is working tirelessly to change that.

Join the Fight at “STARS Dancing for HEALS”

Now, here’s how you can help make a tangible difference! Mark your calendars for December 5, when the community gathers at 6:30 p.m. at the Von Braun Center for a night filled with entertainment and generous hearts. The gala, “STARS Dancing for HEALS,” is all about raising funds that will go directly to support the clinic’s work with children in need.
