Huntsville, AL — The city of Huntsville welcomed a new neighbor this October when Chalker Group celebrated their expansion from Birmingham with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony. This cheerful event took place on the second-floor patio of the Davidson Center on the afternoon of October 9, all while basking in the legendary shadow of the Saturn V rocket.
Hosted in partnership with the Huntsville/Madison Chamber of Commerce, this gathering was not only a formal introduction for Chalker Group—it was a celebration of new possibilities. Founded in Birmingham in 2014, Chalker is a remarkable all-female consulting firm dedicated to matching companies with exceptional talent, ensuring that the recruitment process is as smooth and welcoming as possible.
Chalker’s mission goes beyond just connecting businesses to potential employees. “We serve as an added layer in the recruiting process, and our mission is to help recruit candidates’ partners, their spouses, and their families,” explained Chalker Co-President, Walton Foster. Their tagline, ‘The power of connection’, emphasizes their commitment to understanding how recruits define ‘home’ and connecting them to vital resources that help in making that new city feel like home.
According to Foster, the businesses they assist are on the hunt for high-quality talent from not just the state, but from across the nation and even around the globe. This is where Chalker comes in; they provide custom-tailored experiences—whether it’s for a single afternoon, a full day, or an entire weekend—to help prospective candidates visualize bringing their families and creating new lives in Huntsville. “Connecting candidates to the resources they value helps dispel any concerns they may have about relocating to Alabama,” said co-president Jen Dent.
Relocating for a job is a significant decision, and Chalker is here to ease that burden. “Seventy-five percent of people say that finding a new job and relocating is one of the most stressful things they do in their life,” Dent pointed out. “It’s pretty cool that we get to destress people for a living.” Chalker knows that retaining employees is often linked to how comfortable they feel in their new surroundings. The more attachments and connections they make within the community, the more likely they are to stay.
Ann Kepner, who serves as the Director of Huntsville Services for Chalker, has personal experience in relocating to Huntsville, having moved from Pennsylvania 14 years ago. She encouraged anyone considering a move to the area to see it for themselves. “Come visit because once you see the community and you see the kindness of people here, it will really make a difference,” she said.
Kepner also shared that Huntsville has so much to offer, and has seen the local amenities blossom since her family’s arrival. “We have so many benefits of a bigger city in a smaller package—without some of the bigger city problems, like traffic,” she noted. Kepner immersed herself in the local community through church groups and service organizations, which she believes made all the difference in her transition.
“Just get into it,” she advised those new to the area. “There’s something for everyone here.” Her enthusiasm is clear, and with Chalker Group now in town, it seems that many more new families will soon feel right at home in Huntsville.
As Huntsville continues to grow and attract new talent, Chalker Group’s innovative approach to recruitment is set to play a key role in building a strong, connected community for years to come.
