Dia De Los Muertos Celebration
One of the standout events this weekend is the Dia De Los Muertos celebration hosted by the Athens Arts League. Taking place on Saturday, November 2, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at High Cotton Arts, this vibrant event will be filled with live music, delicious food trucks, and a great variety of arts and crafts. Attendees will have the opportunity to remember and celebrate loved ones who have passed in a lively atmosphere. It’s a beautiful way to come together as community and keep memories alive! Veterans Honored with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
On the same day, we’ll also see a heartwarming ribbon cutting ceremony at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive. Set for 9 a.m., this ceremony will follow the monthly Coffee Call and will take place at the new park located at 114 W. Pryor St.. This is a wonderful opportunity for community members to support our local veterans and celebrate their sacrifices.
Used Book Sale and Chicken Stew
Lovers of literature and comfort food, you’re in luck! The Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library are holding a Used Book Sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library on 603 S. Jefferson St.. Just imagine all those hidden literary gems waiting for a new home! Ain’t that a treat?
If you’re craving something delicious, the VFW Auxiliary #4765 is hosting its annual Fall Chicken Stew at 18165 Jefferson St.. Pre-sale pickup will kick off at 1 p.m., while regular sales get underway at 2 p.m. For just $10 per quart, you can savor this hearty delight. Softball Tournament and Cultural Festival
Sports enthusiasts should mark their calendars for the 2024 Athens Police Department’s First Responders Softball Tournament at Athens Sportsplex. Originally slated for an earlier date, it will now take place this Saturday. Teams are encouraged to participate and show their athletic prowess while having fun!
Additionally, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, the Preserving Democracy in Alabama organization will host a Multi-Cultural Performing Arts Fall Festival at Athens Middle School. This event is not only entertaining but will also benefit Tanner High School’s marching band. What better way to enjoy the arts while supporting our youth?
