Madison is gearing up for a delightful evening that embraces community spirit and pride! Celebrate Madison, the city’s annual event, is set to kick off at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, at the stunning Toyota Field, located at 500 Trash Panda Way. This event is your chance to come together with fellow residents, enjoy some delicious free treats, and learn about the city’s progress and future plans.
While many cities tend to hold formal, reserved events with limited attendance for their annual State of the City address, Madison has taken a different approach. Three years ago, Mayor Paul Finley decided it was time to liven things up. In partnership with the Madison Chamber of Commerce, he created Celebrate Madison, an event designed to foster excitement and connection among residents. “Information is power, and we want to transfer that power to our community in every facet that we can,” Mayor Finley expressed.
This spirit of community engagement has taken root, allowing the city to share vital information in a fun and festive atmosphere. Think hot dogs, face painting, and even fireworks! This year, the event promises to entertain and educate, ensuring that even the busiest citizens will make time to join us.
According to Michelle Epling, president of the Madison Chamber of Commerce, the event’s attendance has more than doubled since moving to Toyota Field. The popularity is growing and reflects the vibrant life in Madison. The first 300 attendees will enjoy free hot dogs, soda, and ice cream, with more food available for purchase after supplies run out. Sounds like a great way to spend an evening!
But it’s not just about the food! Celebrate Madison will also feature a mix of entertainment and activities suitable for all ages. From whimsical fairy hair provided by Rocket City Mom to character meet-and-greets for the kids, there’s something for everyone. Parents can explore a showcase of local businesses and their offerings while the children indulge in various activities. This event is truly an opportunity to bring everyone together—from city officials to local businesses and schools.
The evening will also include heartwarming moments, such as recognizing local heroes. One highlight will be the presentation of a check from Madison City Schools as part of their Supporting Our Students Campaign, aimed at assisting students with essentials and extracurricular fees. Another poignant moment will be the announcement of the second annual Military Family of the Year Award, made possible through the generous sponsorship of Signalink, a veteran-owned business.
As the night unfolds, Mayor Finley will take the stage to deliver his much-anticipated State of the City address. After his speech, the sky will fill with fireworks, sponsored by Huntsville Utilities. It’s a celebration of success, growth, and the warm community spirit that defines Madison.
Despite the excitement of the event, Mayor Finley emphasizes the importance of transparency about the city’s growth. “I hope people leave with an understanding that not only are we managing growth, but we’re enhancing the quality of life through careful planning,” he assured.
Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to connect with your community. Celebrate Madison is not just an event; it’s a chance to strengthen your roots and embrace the vibrant culture of our city. As Epling beautifully put it, this is the “pinnacle event of the year.”
So gather your family, mark your calendars, and come join the celebration! There is so much to appreciate about Madison, and this event is all about recognizing the incredible spirit within our community.
