HUNTSVILLE, In an effort to cater to the local area’s extensive growth over the years, local authorities have announced the commencement of the Big Cove Village Project by early next year. With the region’s residents now exceeding 20,000, the project’s objectives include road expansion, increased commercial presence, and enhanced housing facilities.
Details have emerged on the planned enhancements to the area, which include the creation of more family-friendly apartment-style buildings along Old Big Cove Road—these may feature retail spaces situated on the lower levels. This venture aims to fulfill residents’ wishes, creating a community replete with facilities so residents need not travel outside for their needs.
Recreation is a significant part of the Big Cove Village Project. Authorities are keen to link the Green Mountain Nature Trail and the Land Trust Trails to the village. This addition will allow outdoor enthusiasts to take a break from their activities, enjoy a meal or drink, and return to the trails swiftly. The long-term ambition is to create a pedestrian-friendly zone, making it safe and convenient for residents living across 431 to visit the village.
The bottom-up approach involved in this project is worth noting. Instead of imposing the buildings on residents or following a standard blueprint, the developer has sought residents’ insights. By allowing the community to voice their requirements and preferences, the local authorities intend to create an environment that the residents truly want and appreciate.
The next steps for the Big Cove Village Project involve going to the Planning Commission before being forwarded to the city council for final approval. Thereafter, construction activities are expected to kick-start in the early weeks of 2025.
