Sunny Days Ahead in Athens!

Good morning, Athens! If you’ve been dreaming of some beautiful weather, today is the day! We’re looking at very warm temperatures that will hover around 80°F, making it perfect for outdoor activities. A pleasant breeze coming from the southeast at 10 to 15 mph will add a nice touch to your day out. As the sun sets later on, it’ll dip down to around 55°F, so make sure to have a light jacket if you’re out in the evening!

Exciting Events Happening Today!

Today is particularly special for our educational community. The much-anticipated 2024 State of Education and Higher Education Address kicks off at Carter Gymnasium in Athens State University. Starting at 8 a.m., this is a fantastic opportunity for community members to hear from administrators from various city and county schools as well as higher education institutions. It’s a great way to get involved and stay informed about our local education system!

Trunk or Treat Fun!

As the day progresses, be sure to mark your calendars for some family-friendly fun! The Athens First Christian Church is hosting their annual Trunk or Treat at Big Spring Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Picture this: plenty of candy, free food, and drinks for everyone—what a way to kick off Halloween festivities! Don’t miss out on all the treats and a chance to enjoy a lovely evening at the park.

Halloween Festivities Continue!

And if that’s not enough, local First Responders will sponsor the Trunk or Treat on the Square this Thursday, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring the kiddos out for more costumed fun and loads of candy. Plus, the Ardmore Public Library is holding a special Books and Treats program on Halloween evening from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It’s a double dose of Halloween fun!

Upcoming Events This Weekend

Looking ahead to the weekend, it’s loaded with even more exciting activities! On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archive will have a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., celebrating a newly built park. Come by, show your support, and enjoy some community bonding.

Also, the Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will host a Used Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Grab some books for your home library while supporting a great cause! Don’t forget to stop by the VFW Auxiliary #4765’s annual Fall Chicken Stew later that day; pre-sale orders start around 1 p.m. for this delicious treat.

Good Vibes with the Community

The weekend doesn’t stop there; Saturday is packed with fun events, including the Athens Police Department’s First Responders Softball Tournament and the Dia De Los Muertos Celebration at High Cotton Arts. There is something for everyone in our vibrant community this weekend—just the way we like it!
