AT&T Makes Final Offer to CWA Union Amid Ongoing Workers’ Strike
Huntsville, Ala. — The tense strike situation involving AT&T and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) has reached a new chapter as the company has announced what it terms a “strong final offer” to union members. This comes three weeks after workers initiated a strike over labor disputes.
Details of the Offer
According to a statement from AT&T, the company insists it has been negotiating in good faith and aims to reach an agreement that appropriately compensates its employees for their contributions to customer service. The offer includes significant wage increases, promising an 18% salary boost over the next five years, as well as increased financial support for employee health care plans, with contributions to health savings accounts and lower co-pays.
Corey Anthony, AT&T’s Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations, emphasized that the offer is designed to ensure employees receive competitive market-based pay that likely exceeds projected inflation rates. “We ask members in the Southeast to carefully consider this offer,” he stated.
The Union’s Response
In contrast, the CWA has contested AT&T’s claims, stating the company is not negotiating in good faith. CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. characterized the company’s proposal as “misleading,” expressing disappointment that it does not meet the expectations of the members who have been holding strong on the picket lines. “This proposal does not meet my, or our members’, expectations,” he remarked.
Continuing the Strike
As of now, CWA union workers in Huntsville are resolute in continuing their strike until a more satisfactory deal is reached. The ongoing strike has seen around 20 days of picketing, with employees remaining committed to their cause despite the challenges.
AT&T has expressed concerns that the current bargaining climate may not lead to a quick resolution. “It seems clear to us that the current bargaining process is unlikely to reach a resolution any time soon,” the company stated.
