Apollo Park Construction on Track, Opening Scheduled This Fall in MidCity

Revitalizing MidCity with Apollo Park

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Urban regeneration in the MidCity district continues with the construction of a new community fixture, Apollo Park. Sited between the Orion Amphitheater and Top Golf, the park spans 20 acres and offers various recreational activities in a beautiful setting. The park’s construction remains on track, with the grand opening set for this fall.

James Gossett, the City of Huntsville’s Parks and Recreation Director, explains the rationale behind the project. Gossett highlighted how vital the park would be to enhancing the district’s resonance with the local population’s lifestyle, with the area already rich in shops, restaurants, and housing.

Apollo Park is just another piece to the puzzle there at MidCity,” Gossett stated. “It creates a recreational area for visitors, residents and those attending events. For those living in the area, it’s a place to exercise and enjoy the outdoors.”

Breathtaking Features

The park will host two lagoons suitable for both canoeing and kayaking, a designated beach area, walking trails, a pedestrian bridge, a fitness court, and expansive greenery. All these will meet various recreational needs of the public while adding to the aesthetic value of the MidCity district.

Discussing the new attractions, Gossett showed immense anticipation. “We’re thrilled whenever we get the opportunity to add a feature to a community, and this will be a really integral feature at MidCity for residents and visitors alike.” Gossett noted. “It will be a place that people can gather, exercise, and spend quality family time.”

The Fitness Court and Art Collaboration

The park’s fitness court will be a product of a partnership between Arts Huntsville and the National Fitness Campaign. Adding an artistic flavor, renowned artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s original artwork will adorn the court once the construction is complete.

Fulfilling a multi-faceted role, Apollo Park is not just a place for recreation, but also a cultural hub. Gossett indicated that the construction schedule was on track, instilling confidence in a public grand opening in the early fall.

Apollo Park’s imminent completion marks another cornerstone in MidCity’s regenerative efforts, fostering an ‘Eat, Play, Live’ ethos and creating an attractive, vibrant district in Huntsville.
