Huntsville is gearing up for an exhilarating weekend as the Kids to Love Foundation prepares for its biggest fundraiser of the year! Taking place on September 20-21, downtown Huntsville will be buzzing with energy as the foundation hosts a truly unique event: a rappelling challenge called Over the Edge.
What’s the goal of this thrilling event? Edgers, as the participants are dubbed, will pledge to raise funds for the Kids to Love Foundation in exchange for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to rappel a staggering 160 feet from the top of the Regions Center to the street below. Talk about a view!
Among this year’s brave Edgers are notable local figures, including Madison Mayor Paul Finley and WZYP radio personality Mojo. It’s heartwarming to see community leaders getting involved, and it exemplifies the supportive spirit of Huntsville. Lee Marshall, the Founder and CEO of Kids to Love, highlighted this by saying, “We have such a supportive community full of people willing to challenge themselves for a good cause.”
This isn’t just an event for the Edgers; it’s a full-blown street party for everyone! The public is invited to come out and watch as participants take the plunge down 11 stories of the Regions Center. The celebration doesn’t stop there. On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the area at the corner of Clinton Avenue and Church Street will transform into a vibrant street party.
Families can look forward to a Kids Zone featuring magical princess sightings, exciting activities provided by Rocket City Mom, a climbing wall, and even a Virtual Reality Over the Edge experience courtesy of Kids to Love’s private school, KTECH. And let’s not forget about the food! Local favorites like New South Hotdog and Southerland Sno Depot will be on-site to satisfy those taste buds. Plus, both days will feature a live DJ to keep the energy high and the atmosphere festive!
But why should we care about this event beyond the fun and festivities? The money raised through Over the Edge goes directly to support a variety of vital programs for children in foster care. This includes essentials such as school supplies, clothing, and toys, especially during festive seasons like Christmas. Some standout programs that benefit from this fundraising effort include:
With each rappel, not only are participants overcoming their fears, but they are also proving that they can make a real difference in their community. If you want to learn more about the Kids to Love Foundation and their incredible initiatives, check out their website at kidstolove.org.
The excitement is palpable, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for the entire Huntsville community to show support for a good cause while having tons of fun! So grab your friends and family and head downtown for a weekend of adventure, laughter, and camaraderie as we rally together for the well-being of children in need!
