An 83-year-old man from Lawrence County, Alabama, tragically lost his life after being attacked by two dogs on Sunday. The incident occurred in the 200 block of County Road 264 in Town Creek at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Authorities from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, as well as fire and EMS personnel, swiftly responded to a report of a dog attack at the residence. Upon arrival, they discovered Willard Norton unresponsive near the front door of his home.
Willard Norton was immediately transported to a local hospital to receive medical attention for his injuries. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away as a result of the dog attack.
Following his untimely death, Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood has ordered an autopsy to be conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to determine the exact cause of Mr. Norton’s demise.
Authorities were able to secure the two dogs involved in the attack, and they were taken into custody by Animal Control. The dogs were then transported to the Lawrence County Animal Shelter for further assessment and evaluation.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. All evidence and findings will be meticulously documented and presented to the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential legal action.
